The transit of venus across the sun takes place when the planet venus passes directly between the sun and the Earth, becoming visible against the solar disk, appearing as a black dot. The transit of venus in the year 2012 lasted for 6 hours and 40 minutes. Even though Venus has a diameter 3 times bigger than the moon but it appears smaller and travels more slowly across the face of the Sun, due to it being further away from the Earth. This would be a once in a life event for us as the next transit of Venus would be a astounding 105 years later, that would be the year 2117.
I woke up and first saw the news on CNN, having forgotten all about it, it suddenly dawned on me that as I was watching TV, the transit is still happening! I reached for my 600D with its 55-250 lens and took some pictures of the sun. Apparently luck was on my side, since I did not have a eclipse shades, the clouds served as a natural filter.
Unfortunately after a few shots, heavy rain clouds came racing in from the distant horizon and it started to rain...until eventually the transit was over.
Anyways, here are the shots I managed to get. :)
